Johanna Orellana(NO/CL)
Norwegian-Chilean composer Johanna Orellana creates woodwind-led soundscapes that tell a deeply personal story, illustrating it with virtuosic flourishes that challenge our preconceptions about the flute and its role. On her debut album "Las Camelias, Tres Esquinas", released this year on Smalltown Supersound, Orellana remembers her father, a Chilean political dissident who fled to Norway in the 1970s. Before he died, he returned to his home in the Andes, which is where her sister sourced the evocative field recordings that underpin Orellana's dynamic and highly emotional explorations of breath and tone.
